The Faith Formation Commission develops and implements a vision for the evangelization and catechesis of all persons who already are or desire to be members of the Body of Christ. Evangelization proclaims the person of Jesus Christ, inviting the believer into a life-giving relationship with him and his Church; catechesis transmits the divinely revealed truths of the Word of God (Scripture and Tradition) so that disciples may deepen their faith (ongoing conversion) through reason (i.e., the Spirit’s gifts knowledge, understanding, wisdom) and growth in holiness. The Faith Formation Commission guides and supports various parish-based catechetical programs (adult faith formation classes; middle and high school youth ministry; religious education for children in grades Kindergarten through 5; sacramental preparation including baptism of children, restored order, OCI, and marriage; scripture study and other faith sharing groups, etc.).
The Justice and Charity Commission supports the various groups and initiatives within our parish that service those in need in accordance with Catholic social teaching. The Commission advocates for the needs of the vulnerable and marginalized while working to offer parishioners opportunities to serve the Lord and by serving our brothers and sisters. The Commission meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at St. Michael’s Center, 436 S. Main St., Brewer. Those interested in joining the commission should contact the Parish Office or the Commission Chair for consideration.
“The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life” (Lumen Gentium, no. 11). As such, the primary focus and work of the Worship and Spirituality Commission is to ensure that parishioners are drawn and welcomed to a “fully conscious and active participation” (Sacrosanctum Concilium, no. 14) in the celebration of Mass, most especially on the Lord’s Day. United to and nourished by the Real Presence of Christ, the Christian community of faith then goes forth to serve our brothers and sisters in accord with the great commandment of loving God and neighbor. The Worship and Spirituality Commission also supports the spiritual and liturgical life of the parish in ways that flow from our preeminent act of worship and sacrifice as Catholics: ensuring that it is beautiful, dignified, and faithful to the tradition and rites of the Church; encouraging the study of the Word of God; forming adults and children for the Sacraments of Initiation; preparing couples for the Sacrament of Marriage; providing opportunities for the Sacraments of Healing (Confession and Anointing); training lay ministers; and fostering private and public devotions (i.e., Adoration, Stations of the Cross, the Holy Rosary, the Divine Mercy Chaplet, etc.).
